Two Detentions in the Aftermath of London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack
Two more people are now in custody related to a theft at London's Heathrow Airport in which over twenty individuals were injured by a substance believed to be pepper spray, as stated by law enforcement.
A 24-year-old man, was arrested in Lambeth on suspicion of robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.
The arrests follow a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, two women had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.
A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for medical care and were later discharged.
Officers arrested a man in his thirties for suspected theft and assault close to the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.
Authorities were alerted at about 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding several people hurt by a noxious substance believed to be an irritant spray.
The attack - which authorities stated was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
