Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
