The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Fractured Mind
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.
Based on showcased gameplay, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, though additional clips show the protagonist exploring a desolate church.
An Environment of Individual Dread
"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."
The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.
Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision
At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."
After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
