The Trajectory of Storm Amy

Storm Amy - the first named storm of the season will move to the north of the UK through Friday evening, when wind speeds are expected to be at their highest.

A cold front will also drift downwards, delivering heavy rain.

During the night, the winds will peak across Scotland as heavy rain sweeps southeast across Wales and England, before slowly subsiding later on Saturday.

Despite Saturday remaining quite gusty, there will be a combination of bright intervals and rainfall, mainly occurring over the UK's north and west.

Forecast for the Weekend

Come Sunday, Storm Amy will have moved further out into the North Sea so it will be less rainy with calmer winds for the latter part of the weekend.

The next storm name will be the name Bram. A fresh set of names is released annually by the Met Office before the storm season begins in September with both male and female names selected through public input.

Weather systems may receive names from either the UK's Met Office, Ireland's Met Éireann, or the Netherlands' KNMI when effects are predicted as "moderate to severe."
