Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months following leading disrespectful taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. His seven-year career with Leeds finished through agreement in August.
One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Past History Involving Bamford & the Manager
The pair had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
Everything seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Challenges
The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
