Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
