Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
