Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
